 COUNTRY FACTS: INFORMATION ABOUT CUBA

Cuba consists of 14 provinces, including the city of Havana, and
one special municipality. The provinces, with their major city of
the same name (unless otherwise noted), from west to east, are:

Pinar del Rio, La Habana, Ciudad de La Habana, Matanzas,
Villa Clara (city of Santa Clara), Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus,
Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Las Tunas (city of Victoria), Holguín,
Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and Granma (city of Bayamo).

The Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) is a special municipality,
with its major city of Nueva Gerona, was known until the 1970s as
Isla de Pinos ("Isle of Pines"), and previously as "Evangelista,"
"Isle of Santiago," and "Isle of Parrots."
